Why Americans Don't Care About Gaza

No, Americans don't care about Gaza.

They don't!

Don't try to make them as it hurts their heads.

Besides, they are busy.

As Salaamu Alaikum Sis:

It's not true that Americans don't care about Gaza. That is a general statement: Americans don't care about Gaza. There are Americans all over the country trying to do something about Gaza: speaking out, demonstrating, giving money and time ... but I know that our media may make it seem like we don't care.

But sis: we do.

I'm American, sis. Take a look at my blog. And many other blogs. Muslims, Jews, and Christians of good will all do care about Gaza.

Wa Alaykom Asalam Safiyyah,

Thanks for your words. Ya, I am overgeneralizing, as I know some do care.

However, this fact I give (that more people care about the cute dog contest) is absolutely true. It was the number one viewed story from our local newspaper. That is disheartening.

AbuBoo and I had an inside joke about Americans and their lack of appetite for hard news. We had been watching Al-Jazeera with all the Iraq War news coverage, then flipped to our local station. What did they have on their news? It was a waterskiing squirrel. Whenever we wanted to sum up American attitude, we would say something like, "but I'd rather watch the waterskiing squirrel."
